On November 5, 2013 the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), , launched the “Programme of Assistance to Trade Support Institutions in Liberia” (PATSIL), to enhance trade capacity for sustainable growth. This reflects only one of the methods through which the MOCI will impact the Liberia’s ability to strategically maneuver itself in a competitive trade environment both regionally and internationally. Minister Cyril Allen who leads this effort as Deputy Minister of Administration, said that the launch of PATSIL marks the true beginning of the MOCI’s rebranding efforts and a beginning of a much anticipated fruitful relationship between the African Development Bank (ADB) and the Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MOCI). The Ministry of Commerce and Industry in partnership with Forbes Magazine, hosted a one-day event, “The Entrepreneurial Exchange 2013 Business Summit” at the Monrovia City Hall on the morning of October 30, 2013. The summit brought together a broad spectrum of leading Liberian businessmen and women, international entrepreneurs and philanthropists, government officials and foreign dignitaries. Ambassador Deborah R. Malac of the United States Embassy kicked off the event with opening remarks, which highlighted the importance of supporting Liberia's small businesses. The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Hon. Axel M. Addy opened the event and urged Liberian entrepreneurs to take full advantage of the interactive sessions and seek to create linkages with Forbes partners that will be beneficial to their development of their businesses. On October 8-10, Ministry of Commerce and Industry hosted a workshop dedicated to sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures in the context of Liberia’s accession to the World Trade Organization.
