Activity Hightlights of the Deputy Minister for Indsutry Office

  • Lofa Women’s Weaving Center: In February 2016 construction will begin for the Lofa Women Weaving Center, in Kolahun, Lofa County. This center will be a 3,000 square foot facility equipped with modern equipment, including power and industrial hand looms required to expand the Liberian country cloth textile industry.
  • Providence Island Renovation and Historic Preservation: A project to renovate Providence Island, in line with UNESCO World Heritage Standards is currently underway. The project's anticipated completion date is QTR 4 2016 and involves the participation of MOCI, MICAT, MCC, MPW, the Tourism Board and other key stakeholders.
  • Expansion of the “Liberian Marketplace” Trade Store:The Ministry is currently implementing a project to expand the marketplace and relocate the existing (3rd Street) site to the top floor of the Nancy Doe Market. This expansion will also provide the opportunity to showcase Liberian produce through a farmer’s market concept, which will be located on the grounds of the market.
  • Rubberwood Furniture Center (RFC) : The promotion and enhancement of the forestry sector and all components of value chain addition is included in our diversification strategy. We have implemented a project to construct a furniture center which will include a wood workshop and showcase for carpenters currently working with rubberwood as a Phase I. As the project develops, additional carpenters working with a variety of other Liberian wood types will be incorporated.
