April 14, 2022: As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the implementation stage of its USD$7,817,000.00 Livelihood and Food Employment Creation Project, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration the United Nations Development Program(UNDP), has concluded a two-day knowledge and Evaluation of Lessons Learnt for 2021 Implementation in Ganta City, Nimba County.
The USD$7,817,000.00 Livelihood and Employment creation project in Liberia focuses on vulnerable communities and less privileged people, including women, the youth, people living with disabilities and refugees.
The project, with a life span of five years is implemented by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, with support from the UNDP and targets 7 counties. It is being implemented in Montserrado, Grand Cape Mount, Bassa, Sinoe, Grand Gedeh, Nimba and Lofa Counties.
The UNDP has in place measures and procedures, thereby making it possible to ensure transparency during the execution of the project. The measures range from financial risk management, audit and procurement to quality delivery of development services.
The Two-Day Workshop on Lessons Learnt from 2021 Activities Implementation and Knowledge Sharing on how to Improve Implementation of future activities took place from 11th April to the 12th, 2022, and brought together more than twenty five participants from several institutions from the public and private sectors.
It can be recalled that the UNDP and the Liberian Government, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in May, 2021, launched the livelihood project, with about US$1.5m given in grants, contracts, etc., to Liberian MSMEs in the agribusiness, waste management as well as others in the fishing industry.
Other stakeholders and partners include a number of several other government agencies, namely, the Ministries of Agriculture, Internal Affairs; Youth and Sports; Gender, Children and Social Protection; and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) and UNDP have begun working in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), as well as the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) to support innovative livelihood and financial solutions.
The essence of the workshop, among other things was to present the approved 2022 Annual Work Plan (AWP) for the records and develop the Terms of Reference (TORs) for new activities and Identify key results of the project by putting in place measures to communicate and sustain the results.
During the workshop, both participants and facilitators called for support toward efforts aimed at making the activities of theUSD$7,817,000.00 Livelihood and Employment Creation Project visible through the media.
