MoCI Successfully Concludes 2025 International MSMEs Day

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoCI), on Friday, June 27, 2025, successfully concluded the observance of the 2025 International MSMEs Day at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.

The program, held in collaboration with EcoBank Liberia Limited was aimed at fostering the growth, competitiveness, and sustainability of Liberian-owned Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs).  Other partner institutions that graced the occasion are the Liberia Business Association (LIBA), Liberia Chamber of Commerce (LCC) and Jeety Trading Corporation (JTC).

The program, held under the theme: Building Resilient MSMEs: Advancing Job Creation, Innovation, and Local Content,” was part of Commerce Ministry’s ongoing efforts to support inclusive economic growth and national development through enhanced access to markets.

 In a special statement during the ceremony, the Minister of Commerce & Industry, Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, said MSMEs have survived and continued to deliver goods, services, and most importantly, hope to the Liberian people in the face of difficulties. “Whether economic shocks, health crises, or infrastructural challenges, you continue to stand tall,” Minister Dagoseh observed. 

She described the occasion not just a celebration, but equally a call to action. Minister Dagoseh called on local and international partners to redouble their efforts to support Liberian SMEs by investing in their ideas, expand their access finance, equip them with skills, and seek windows of opportunities for them at local and global markets. 

Madam Dagoseh pledged the Ministry of Commerce & Industry’s commitment to creating an enabling environment; including simplifying business registration, promoting value addition, improving trade logistics, and championing reforms that support private sector enterprise. 

Earlier in his keynote address, the President of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce, Natty B. Davies, called for collaboration in addressing challenges being faced by Liberian-owned MSMEs.

He said once huddles affecting the growth and development of local MSMEs are addressed, it will pave the way for them be competitive and on the overall contribute to the economy.

Mr. Davies also called on local MSMEs to consider networking as a means of having their concerns addressed. 

He lauded the Ministry of Commerce & Industry for the idea and for continued efforts aimed building a viable business climate for the country.

Mr. Davies also pledged the commitment of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce in working along with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and other partners in realization of private sector growth and improvement.

During the program, six Liberian-owned MSMEs were certificated for their outstanding performance.

Among them are Den-Vera Medical Laboratory & Clinics, based in  Sinoe and Grand Kru Counties, PAT-BOTO Design, based on Lofa County and engaged in weaving and production of Liberian country clothes.

The attending objectives of the program included raising awareness and acknowledging the essential role of MSMEs in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID). The observance of the day was also in accordance with a UN Security Council decision of December 6, ,2017, for June 27 to be celebrated as  the International Day for Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs), to raise public awareness about  their contributions to sustainable development, innovation, and job creation.
