The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has a new minister. He is Liberian politician and renowned entrepreneur Amin Modad. Mr. Modad   is among the second batch of professionals recently nominated by the Liberian Chief Executive, Joseph N. Boakai.

Prior to his appointment by President Boakai, Mr. Modad served as National Chairman of the Unity Party following an electoral process in September 2020, a task he executed with diligence until 2022 when another leadership was set up during a mini convention.

The renowned Liberian entrepreneur and politician comes to the portfolio with a considerable wealth of understanding of the country’s business environment.  He was instrumental in working along with others to drive Liberia’s trade improvement discussions. 

Since his appointment, Mr. Modad has remained emphatic about facilitating   a resilient and competitive domestic private sector that will attract new investments, develop linkages to global value chains, and prioritize Liberian entrepreneurship. This endeavor includes leading banking and financing sector reforms to provide reasonable financial services and sector-specific financing options for Agriculture, Value Addition, Tourism, and Technology, among others. 

Political pundits strongly believe that Mr. Modad’s appointment will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in professionally and effectively administering the commercial and trade policies of Liberia through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, especially interlocking them with President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s vision to transform the country   through Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Sanitation, Tourism (ARREST), with the theme: Think Liberia, Love Liberia, Build Liberia.   

Meanwhile Mr. Modad was on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 confirmed by the Liberian Senate, a decision that clearly re-enforces the confidence reposed in him by Liberian Chief Executive, Dr. Joseph Nyumah Boakai to serve dear country as the Minister of Commerce and Industry.
