Monday, July 22, 2019: The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Wilson K. Tarpeh, is calling on employees of the Ministry to desist from societal ills that have the propensity to destroy any modern institution. A Commerce Ministry release says, Professor Tarpeh named some of the societal vices as falsehood, gossips and disunity. He said history shows that falsehood, disunity and gossip, among other vices, are major obstacles to growth and development in any human enterprise, both private and public.  

Minister Tarpeh observed that no meaningful organization makes progress when its members are entangled in practices that are unfriendly to progress. He said upon taking over as Commerce Minister in 2018, there were various accounts from some people within that painted a negative picture other employees. Professor Tarpeh, however noted that considering his family values and principle-mindedness, he, along with his team was able to resist the temptation of running the Commerce Ministry on the basis of gossips, hatred and falsehood. Minister Tarpeh re-iterated President Weah’s commitment to ensuring that no Liberian citizen is thrown out of any office or targeted by any political appointee on the basis of misgivings or the individual’s political or religious affiliation.  The Commerce Minister made the statement Sunday at an appreciation and award program for staff of the Commerce Ministry’s Department of Trade Services in the Rehab Community.

In a welcome and introductory remark, Deputy Commerce Minister for Commerce and Trade Services, A.E. Nyema Wisner, said the program, the first of its kind by the Ministry’s Trade Services Department, was aimed at promoting productivity through constructive competition. Mr. Wisner called on other employees at the Department of Commerce and Trade who were not recognized to work harder so that they can be captured in future appreciation programs. During the program, several personnel of the Commerce and Trade Services Department were recognized for various achievements and contributions.

Reading out the awards, Deputy Commerce Minister for Commerce and Trade Services, A.E. Nyema Wisner, recognized Johnson Young Bilm as hard working,  Love-Tee Kanu, most sociable, Massa Kromah, most punctual,Charles Leeway, multitasking employee, Henrietta Diggs, most efficient, while Trokon Harmon won 10 bags of flour for  being a team player,  amongst others.
