Press Release: Wednesday, March 6, 2024: The Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) have received 575(25kg) bags of rice from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI).
Out of the total, the LNP received 225 bags while the AFL got 350 bags.
The gesture was made possible as a result of a donation from the Rice Importers Association of Liberia as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Making the presentations on behalf of government Wednesday, March 6, 2024 in Monrovia, Commerce and Industry Minister, Amin Modad said one of the things the Ministry has embarked upon since he took over is constant engagements with relevant partners as a means of rekindling the spirit of collaboration.
Minister Modad added that as a result of such constructive engagements, the Ministry was able to negotiate with the rice importers, thereby making the donation a reality.
He spoke about plans for periodic provision of support to couple of agencies that are mostly in need and that the Commerce Ministry saw it befitting to begin with the Liberia National Police and the Armed Forces of Liberia. “This is part of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s agenda and also part of our 100 days deliverables,” Minister Modad said.
Also speaking, the Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Jerolinmek Piah said the gesture was welcoming. Minister Paih said the more such initiatives are undertaken, it will go a long way in motivating those in the security sector to continue rendering services to the country.
The information minister however expressed the hope that what Minister Modad initiated should be stepped up in future, extended to other needy institutions and also done as often as possible.
Responding, Liberia National Police Inspector General, Gregory Coleman described the donation as timely. Col. Coleman said the rice would be dispatched to rural Liberia where LNP officers are assigned as a means of encouraging them as they continue to make tremendous sacrifices for dear country.
The LNP boss said every positive means would be sought out there in line with efforts to motivate officers of the Liberia National Police. Col. Coleman lauded Minister Modad and the rice importers for the gesture.For his part, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, Davidson Forleh said he was pleased that the AFL could form part of beneficiaries of the rice. Col. Forleh added that the Commander-In-Chief of the AFL, Joseph Nyuma Boakai is very keen about the welfare of the National Army. He also hailed both Minister Modad and the Rice Importers Association of Liberia for the gesture.
The donation to the LNP was made at its headquarters while that of the AFL was done at the Barclay Training Center (BTC) in Central Monrovia.
