Ministry of Commerce and Industry Eliminates 250 Cartons of Spoiled Chicken at Liberia-Sierra Leone Border

Press Release: Monday: March 18, 2024:  The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has disposed of 250 cartons of unwholesome chicken in Bo - Water Side, Liberia- Sierra Leone Border.

The consignment was seized by the Ministry last week through its Inspectorate Division   while being smuggled into the country through the Bo-Water side entry point.

The unwholesome chicken was disposed of by the Commerce Ministry’s Inspectorate, in collaboration with relevant agencies of government and local authorities in Grand Cape Mount County.

It was discovered during preliminary investigation   that the owner of the supply, only identified as Swaray did not have an Import Notification Form (INF), neither business registration.

It was also established that the 250 cartoons of the chicken were not being transported on a cooler truck, as required for preservation purposes and hence got decayed while at the border for about five days.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has reiterated its commitment to exercising vigilance in protecting the local market against harmful practices, including the sale of substandard and expired products, etc.
