Commerce Ministry Women join others in observing International Women’s Day

The issue of solidarity and collaboration amongst women at nearly every level of the global community is gaining the needed stein, as women are no longer prepared to be placed in the back seat by their male counterparts.

The resilience by women to constructively engage their male counterparts so as the narrow the gap of marginalization after many years is no doubt yielding the needed results. A case in point is the celebration of the 2019 International Women’s Day in Liberia.

 


In the context of unity and collaboration, several women from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 joined their colleagues from other agencies of the Liberian government, including local and international partners to participate in programs marking the observance of International Women’s Day.
The program, officially launched on the campus of the Booker Washington Institute in Kakata City, Margibi County will close on  Friday, 8th March 2019.
During the occasion, several issues affecting women dominated the celebration, with the participants agreeing to always highlight their challenges through constructive advocacy.


Among the concerns and challenges is    the rise in sexual violence against women and children. Liberia’s First Lady, Mrs. Clar Marie Duncan-  Weah also graced the program. The Liberian First Lady, serving as keynote speaker urged Liberian women to ensure that their voice is heard. Madam Weah named constructive engagement as key to making the voice of women heard across the globe.

The observance of the 2019 International Women’s Day in Liberia also attracted remarks from other dignitaries and institutions, including Liberia’s Gender Minister, Mrs.  Williametta E. Sadyee Tarr, UN agencies, ECOWAS, World Bank,AU, the US Embassy, EU and  the Carter Center.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

The occasion was observed under the global them: “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change” On the local scene, the 2019 of International Women’s Day was celebrated under the theme: “Gender Equality for Innovative Change.”
