Commerce Ministry To Pursue Intellectual Property Pirates

The Liberian Government, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will shortly launch a vigorous campaign against piracy in the country.

Commerce and Industry Minister, Wilson K Tarpeh, said the essence of the campaign is to ensure that Liberian artists benefit from their talents.

The Commerce Ministry’s statement comes in the wake of concerns being raised about some individuals duplicating the work of local artists, including other negative practices that undermine copyright regulations.

Prof. Tarpeh said Government will make sure that the intellectual property rights of artists in the country are protected through appropriate laws.

He noted that Liberian Chief Executive, Dr. George Manneh Weah, is himself an artist.

"The President, as an artist himself is keen in supporting intellectual property by protecting the work of artists,” Prof. Tarpeh emphasized.

The Commerce and Industry Minister gave the assurance Monday, August 17, 2020, in Monrovia, at the official launch of the Copyright Society of Liberia.

The Copyright Society of Liberia was launched by the Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO).

During the ceremony, Prince Delkar, was inducted as Executive Director of the Copyright Society of Liberia.
