Liberia - Ghana Standards Laboratories Sign Tripartite MOU

Wednesday: November 27, 2019: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through its National Standards Laboratory and the Ghana Standards Laboratory have signed   a tripartite Memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Liberia

The purpose of the tripartite MOU is to allow the Ghanaian side provide Third Party Certification and testing of fish and fish products, intended for the European Union Market, as approved under the European Union Registered Exporter System (REX) programmed for Liberia.


The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday, November 22, 2019, with representatives of the parties signing for respective institutions.


Speaking during the program, the Director General of Ghana Standards Authority, Prof. Alex Dodoo, hailed the Liberian Government, through the Commerce Ministry for the warn reception accorded him and delegation.

 
Professor Dodoo, noted that the signing ceremony will further improve good partnership with the Liberian Government. Mr. Dodoo also disclosed that the coming into being of the Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding will promote cordial   relations amongst   members from Liberia and Ghana’s   private sectors. “As a result of this MOU, Liberia’s products will be accepted on the European market,” Professor Dodoo observed.


Meanwhile, the   Director General of the National Fishery and Aquaculture Authority, (NaFAA), Madam Emma Glassco, described the initiative as a worthy development.
Madam Glassco, said the initiative will greatly help Liberia in the area of quality infrastructure through its National Standards Laboratory. She noted further that enhancing quality testing of products will equally provide a vibrant atmosphere in Liberia’s fishery industry.


At the same time, Deputy Commerce Trade Services, A.E Nyema Wisner, thanked the both parties for their speedy innovation in making the initiative a success. Mr. Wisner described the formal signing of the Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding that will pave the way for the Ghanaian Standards Authority to provide Third Party Certification and testing of Liberian fish and fish products, intended for the European Union Market as commendable.
