Viable Private Sector Stimulates Economic Growth ..Says Prof. Tarpeh

Press Release: Thursday: January 23, 2020: Commerce and Industry Minister, Wilson Tarpeh, says the private sector is key to the growth and development of the Liberian economy.

 

Minister Tarpeh further described the private sector as the engine of growth that must be supported by all Liberians, regardless of political differences, if the Country must be transformed.

 

According to Prof. Tarpeh, the private sector business climate is very essential to the commerce of any meaningful society, including Liberia.

 

A Commerce Ministry release quotes Minister Tarpeh as indicating that the private sector is contributing towards bringing business entities back to their full potential and normality.

 

The Commerce Minister however said considering the importance of the private sector in boosting the economy, Liberians should guide against practices that have the propensity to undermine its growth and development.

 

Prof. Tarpeh also said while the CDC led -Government recognizes the rights of the citizens to comment on national issues, they should equally take into account that a noisy environment drives away investors and undermines private sector growth.

 

Prof. Tarpeh observed that from a global perspective, every business environment requires stability, predictability and affordability in other for it to flourish. 

 

He said since the birth of the CDC led Government, efforts continue to be made to keep the prices of commodities stable on the market, but noted further that it is the instability of the exchange rate that is causing the prices of some goods not to be stable.

 

The release said government is however determined to address challenges in the business sector.

 

The Commerce and Industry Minister made the statement on ECOWAS Radio Thursday, January 23,  2020, where he reflected on the Gains and Challenges of Liberia’s Business Climate in 2019 and Prospects for 2020.
