Friday, January 31, 2025: The Director General of the Civil Service Agency (CSA), Josiah Joekai, says the current CSA, under his watch will not be a vehicle that promotes illegal suspension or dismissal of civil servants.

Dr. Joekai pointed out that instead in nurturing illegal actions against employees, the CSA would encourage high performance and ensure that issues affecting government workers are handled with fairness and transparency in order for the various government entities to produce the requisite results.

Mr. Joekai added that government would make the required progress once political appointees and workers’ leaderships at the various government entities see themselves as one family working in the interest of Liberia.

He said once employees perform their duties with efficiency and effectiveness; the government will succeed- noting that such success will lead   to trust and confidence from the citizenry.  “If we don’t succeed, the Liberian people will not respect us,” observed the CSA boss.

He equally called on the workers leadership of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry not to be unreasonable in engaging the Senior Management Team (SMT), but ensure that their concerns are properly channeled. 

Mr. Joekai added that he was touched by the induction statement of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry Workers’ Association, especially the caution for people to conduct themselves in accordance with institutional policies.

For her part, the Minister of Commerce & Industry, Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, called   on employees of the Ministry to do away with gossips and other societal ills that have propensity to tear down national institutions.

 Minister Dagoseh  said  while she welcomes the right employees have to express their concerns about issues that may be affecting them, there will equally  be no room for gossips.

She encouraged employees of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry to also learn how   to channel their grievances through their leadership and with due respect. 

Speaking further, Madam Dagoseh stressed the importance of performance and unity, if the Ministry must succeed in serving the Liberian people.

She mentioned that no institution makes the needed progress without its members giving the best of their time and skills. 

Madam Dagoseh once more described the employees as the  heartbeat of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry- adding that once everyone works together and speaks with a united voice, prospects for growth and improvement will be better and greater.

She vowed to ensure that the merit system, as enshrined in the Civil Service Agency regulations is upheld. She reiterated that any good policy decisions that were reached by her predecessors will be upheld, while those that may not suit the Ministry’s current needs will be revisited.

In his induction statement, the President of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry Workers’ Association, Oliver Sonah, called on fellow employees to be committed to their duties. Mr. Sonah added that while he and team are determined to advocate for the workers, they should equally conduct themselves in line with institutional policies.

He described employees at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry as resilient, hardworking and people who have endured what he described as some of the demotivating conditions, ranging from low salaries to lack of transportation, among others.

He however called for the culture of respect for one another and the need to guide against practices that are capable of pinning down progress and unity. Mr. Sonah named some of the vices as gossips, backbiting and unnecessary favor seeking at the expense of other employees’ reputation.

The newly installed leadership includes Mercy Dupley, Vice Chair for Administration, Emmanuel Teah, and Vice Chairman for Operations, Moses Kollie, Secretary General and Josephine Bleedee, Chaplain.

Others are Randy Nyemah, Assistant Secretary General, Miriel Monger, Treasurer and Christopher Nyentan, Financial Secretary.
