Monrovia, Liberia, December 13, 2024, The Minister of Commerce and Industry, on Thursday, December 12, 2024, officially took office, in a vibrant ceremony filled with optimism and commitments, Madam Magdalene Shelley-Dagoseh addressing staff, stakeholders, and dignitaries, emphasized the ministry’s critical role in driving economic growth, fostering industrial development, and strengthening Liberia's position in global trade.
“It is a privilege to lead a ministry that holds the weeds of our nation’s economy, growth, industrial development, and global trade targets,” Minister Dagoseh declared during her special statement. “This ministry is established to foster economic growth, ensure industrial development, and promote sustainable trade and investment.”
Outlining her priorities, painted a bold vision for the ministry, aimed at fostering price stability, economic innovation, and strengthened trade relationships. “Our mission is to create an environment where businesses can succeed, industries can transform, and our citizens can enjoy economic prosperity through job creation and price stability,” she said.
She further emphasized the importance of teamwork and collective dedication, stating, “This responsibility requires our collective sincerity and togetherness. Let us work collectively, respect one another, follow the rules, and cultivate the strength of our diversity to achieve our shared goals.”
Minister Dagoseh extended heartfelt appreciation to her predecessor, Minister Amin Modad, acknowledging his remarkable contributions and laying the foundation for the ministry’s progress. “His leadership and efforts have been instrumental, and I am committed to building upon his good plans,” she noted.
She also praised the dedication and commitment of the ministry's staff, referring to them as the "lifeblood" of the institution’s success. “From the most senior officials to junior staffers, your hard work is the backbone of this ministry’s achievements. You are my solid heroes,” she remarked.
Highlighting the importance of integrity, the new minister urged all staff to uphold principles of accountability and excellence. “Success in this ministry requires sincerity in everyone’s commitment,” she said. “Let us be guided by responsibility, transparency, and a genuine desire to make a difference.”
Minister Dagoseh also promised a transformative approach to commerce and industry in Liberia, ensuring that essential goods remain affordable and promoting fair trade practices to curb inflation. In her welcome remarks, Deputy Minister for Administration, Madam Scholastica T. Nyekan-Nimely, introduced Minister Dagoseh to the ministry's staff, emphasizing the importance of their cooperation. “These are the people who will steer the wheels while you deal with policy issues,” she said. “We are confident you will receive the same courtesy and support that we have always enjoyed.”
Minister Nimely described the staff as the “wheels behind the success” of the ministry and assured the minister of their dedication to achieving the ministry’s goals.
The event was graced by Unity Party Chairman Luther Tarpeh, who commended H.E. Joseph N. Boakai President of the Republic of Liberia, for appointing Madam Magdalene Shelley-Dagoseh. “The President has chosen a hardworking, illustrious, and go-getting minister. I have no doubt that her leadership will produce incredible results,” Chairman Tarpeh said.
He lauded Mrs. Dagoseh’s commitment to promoting Liberian businesses and emphasized the ministry’s pivotal role in the administration’s development agenda. “I urge all staff to provide her with full cooperation.
