Monrovia --- Liberia Friday 15, 2019; The Ministry of Commerce and Industry will this week  commence its first General Inspection of   all business establishments across Liberia from Monday, February 18 to Monday, March 18, 2019.

The General Inspection will commence with Monrovia and its environs and later be extended to the four regions of the country.

The essence of the exercise is to provide protection for consumers and ensure continuous compliance with applicable laws, procedures and standards.
Inspectors from the Ministry will carry out the field inspection on a daily basis from 9AM – 4PM, Monday – Thursday only.
The one month inspection will be guided by the Ministry’s General Inspection Guidelines, with focus on the following cardinal areas:

1. Business Registration;
2. Investment Act Enforcement
3. Price- Tagging of Commodity and Goods;
4. Foreign Language and label; and
5. Standard related issues on the following sectors:

The sectors to be covered by the General Inspection include, rice, flour, starches, diary products and frozen food. At the same time, the Metrology Division at the National Standards Laboratory will be carrying out the Bureau of Industrial Services General Verification Exercises. The division will scale on weights and measure all establishments, including supermarkets, butchery shops and filling stations, amongst others. The Commerce Ministry further indicated   that the inspection is necessary to ensure that consumers receive the required quantity of petroleum products and other consumable commodities.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is reminding all business establishments, including supermarkets, stores, provision shops to price tag their commodities in both Liberian and United States Dollars based on the Central Bank of Liberia’s prevailing rate.
