Minister of Commerce and Industry Conducts Industrial Visit

As part of the rebranding efforts at the Ministry, the Minister of Commerce and Industry alone with Senior Management Staffs of the Ministry on Friday, the 19th of July 2013, visited some industrial sites of the country to enable the senior management get acquainted and familiarize themselves with the activities and operations of the industrial sector, as well as, to get an insight of the constraints, challenges and to discuss the way forward of  how the Ministry can provide assistance to the industrial sectors in creating an enabling business environment.

As part of this exercise, the Minister and his team visited CEMENCO and Duraplast Plastic Material Factory both of which are located along the Freeway, Somalia Drive. At Cemenco, Minister Addy thanked the Cemenco Management on behalf of his team for their warm reception and promised to work with the industrial sectors by providing support to initiative that will enhance industrial capacity and enable the industrial sectors become more competitive and effective.

Afterward, the Minister and his team visited the Duraplast Plastic Materials Factory. Upon their arrival, the Minister and his team were greeted by the Factory`s General and Administrative Managers, Mr. Paul Singh, (Sethi) and Miss. Mamawa Sheriff.

After some lengthy discussions, the General Manager was asked by Minister Addy if the factory will go into an additional line of packaging, Mr. Singh responded in the affirmative manner, indicating that the factory is currently in the packaging business. Mr. Singh also said the factory presently has two hundred and fifty (250) workers, both casual and permanent, he intends to employ six hundred workers when the new factory is completed.
