Commerce and Industry Minister, Wilson K. Tarpeh, has urged Liberian journalists to guide against tendencies   that have the propensity to erode public confidence in the local media.

Prof. Tarpeh, admonished journalists go beyond quoting those who are usually accusing government officials of wrong doing, but get to the bottom of such allegations through investigative approach to establish the facts.

Minister Tarpeh noted further that while he has no plans of determining   what the press should report, those accusing government officials of wrong must be professionally pursued   by the media to provide the facts, rather than mere utterances intended to paint a gloomy picture of  others in society, especially those in leadership.

He added that any failure by the media to professionally press those in the habit of accusing national leaders of shortcomings to provide evidence could erode public confidence in the work of Liberian journalists.

The Commerce and Industry Minister who is also Chairman of the         National Steering Committee on the Stimulus Package (COVID-19 Household Food Support Program) made the call recently when he addressed     the Weekly Briefing of the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs Tourism (MICAT) in Monrovia.

Prof. Tarpeh was reacting to claims that the ongoing COVID-19 Food distribution was done in  only two districts in Monrovia since the exercise began on May 23, 2020,when in fact the process had  already reached other areas out of Montserrado County, for instance, Duazon, Margibi County prior to the allegations.
