Minister Dagoseh Visits Bo Waterside Border Post
: The Minister of Commerce & Industry (MoCI), Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, has challenged Commerce Inspectors across Liberia and others heading the various divisions of the Ministry to consider taking initiatives in support of the Ministry’s overall development.
Madam Dagoseh said while she recognizes the existence of challenges at the Ministry, those found in administrative roles should see themselves as a team united and ready to work along with the Senior Management Team (SMT) in finding solution to issues affecting the Ministry.
She added that taking initiatives indicates that one is part of the solution instead of always looking up to the Senior Management Team to come in even when the means to tackle minor problems in one’s arear of assignment exists.
“Positions come with responsibilities and some of these responsibilities include addressing the little ones that one can afford instead of looking up to us to come in,” she pointed out.
Minister Dagoseh said since she officially began duties at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, she has been keen about getting a better picture about issues affecting the entity-adding that constant engagement with her colleagues at the SMT level as well as other stakeholders has proven to be helpful in the process.
The Commerce & Industry Minister assured employees that she and team would continue working together to address logistical and other needs that are beyond the reach of the heading the Inspectorate and other Divisions of the Ministry.
A Ministry of Commerce & Industry release by its Communications Director, Jacob N.B. Parley, says Minister Dagoseh made the statement Monday at the Bo Waterside Border Post during an assessment and acquaintance meeting with Commerce Inspectors assigned at the entry point.
Earlier receiving Minister Dagoseh and delegation upon arrival, the Senior Commerce Inspector for Grand Cape Mount County, Jeff Kamara, lauded her for the visit.
He said the visit provided them an opportunity to interact with Minister Dagoseh, and at the top brief her about challenges affecting them, including what they have been doing to address them.
Mr. Kamara described the Bo Waterside Border Post as strategic in terms of revenue generation for the Ministry- assuring that all hands would be on deck in realization of such idea.
He also mentioned that since their assignment, they have been keen about tackling smuggling at the Bo Waterside Border Post by some unscrupulous businesspeople.
Mr. Kamara welcomed Minister Dagoseh’s expressed concerns about taking initiatives and that upon her next visit, there will be improvement in some of the issues she highlighted.
The one-day assessment visit was aimed at giving Minister Dagoseh and team a better picture of challenges confronting the inspectors, what has been done by them in terms of realizing the Ministry’s vision and mandate as well as prospects for improvement. Minister Dagoseh was accompanied by the Inspector General at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, D. Dorr Cooper, among others.
