The Ministries of Commerce & Industry and Agriculture Hold Second Agriculture Donor Working Group Meeting

Monrovia, Liberia – On Tuesday, 17 May 2016, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Agriculture held the second Agriculture Donor Working Group (ADWG) Meeting to share ideas and ensure coordination and harmonization of the critical interventions regarding the Business Climate Sector Working Group. The Honorable Minister of Commerce and Industry, Honorable Axel M. Addy and Honorable Moses Zinnah, Minister, Ministry of Agriculture, chaired the meeting.

Deputy Minister for Commerce, Steve Marvie presented on the Business Climate. Given the scope of all that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is doing to reform the business climate in priority chains, the key focal areas are fish tax reforms, National Single Window, Signature investors, evaluation and renewal of Section 16, Executive Order 74. The Ministry of Agriculture through its e-Wallet program has begun the process of registering farmers across the country. The program stimulates demand for fertilizer by putting a cash component of the product value directly into the hands of the farmers via mobile wallets or e-wallets. USAID presented on the Development Credit Authority.

The ADWG provides a useful platform for the Government of Liberia and development partners to intervene in the agriculture sector and coordinate their programs for effective results. Donors and public officials also participated in the meeting.
