Monday; May 13, 2019-The attention of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has been drawn to   the indiscriminate rise in the prices of basic commodities on the Liberian market.

The Ministry, as part of efforts to find amicable solution to the matter, on Monday, May 13, 2019, held   discussions with relevant stakeholders, including the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation-LWSC and several local water producers.
Over the weekend the Commerce Ministry also initiated discussions with Liberian water producers, as well as suppliers of materials and other key stakeholders in  the water sector.  

A Commerce Ministry release said the consultations with the stakeholders will continue until the prices of essential commodities on the local market are stabilized. In the meantime, the Commerce Ministry is warning those selling a bag of locally produced mineral water    $10.00 Liberian Dollars per bag   to desist immediately.  

The Commerce Ministry wants to assure the public that it will be    vigilant in ensuring that   no one or business entity exploits the Liberian people and other consumers through indiscriminate increase in the prices of basic commodities across the Country.

The Ministry further warns that anyone caught in exploitative practices in the Liberian business sector; including indiscriminate stepping up of the prices of essential commodities on the local market will be made to account for their action in accordance with law.  

We count on the public to cooperate with the Ministry in exposing elements who may want to inflict more pains on the Liberian people through unwholesome business practices.
