Development Economist and Practitioner

Wilmot A. Reeves is a distinguished development economist and practitioner with over two decades of experience in economic policy analysis, sustainable development, poverty eradication, trade facilitation, human development, project management, and institutional strengthening. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting evidence-based policies and programs that foster inclusive economic growth, improve livelihoods, and advance sustainable development outcomes.

Mr. Reeves began his international development career as an Economics Specialist with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Liberia, where he provided technical leadership in the formulation and implementation of economic policies, poverty reduction strategies, and development initiatives that supported Liberia's post-conflict recovery and sustainable development agenda.

From 2009 to 2024, he served as Economics Advisor across several UNDP country offices, including Eritrea, Kenya, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, and Eswatini. In these roles, he provided strategic economic analysis, policy advisory services, and programmatic support to governments and development partners, contributing significantly to national and regional development priorities.

In academia, Mr. Reeves served as a Teaching Assistant and later as a Lecturer at the University of Liberia, where he taught undergraduate economics courses and mentored aspiring economists, helping to strengthen the next generation of development professionals.

Currently, Mr. Reeves serves as Deputy Minister for Commerce and Trade at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Liberia. In this role, he plays a pivotal part in shaping national commerce and trade policies, promoting private sector development, facilitating investment, and advancing Liberia's economic transformation agenda.

Mr. Reeves holds a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Botswana, a Master of Public Administration in International Development from the University of York in the United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Liberia. He is also pursuing doctoral studies as a PhD Candidate in Economics at the University of Nairobi and a PhD Candidate in Political Economy at the Swiss Management Center University.
